History-phobic India to expunge Allama Iqbal chapter from syllabus
Indian authorities are considering removing a chapter on Pakistan’s national poet Muhammad Iqbal, popularly known as Allama Iqbal, from the sixth-year bachelor’s syllabus. NDTV reported on Saturday.
The academic council of Delhi University has approved the proposal to drop the chapter, which is part of political science textbooks, the publication said.
The history-phobic and anti-Pakistan approach has been welcomed by the right-wing student body.
“Academic Council of Delhi University has decided to drop religious fanatic Muhammad Iqbal from DU (Delhi University) Political Science syllabus. He was earlier included in BA sixth semester paper titled “Modern Indian Political Thought,” Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Parishad (ABVP) said in a statement.
“Muhammad Iqbal has been called the ‘philosophical father of Pakistan’. He was a key player in establishing Jinnah as a leader in the Muslim League. Muhammad Iqbal is as responsible for the partition of India as Muhammad Ali Jinnah. “
According to the report, the chapter on Allama Iqbal titled “Modern Indian Political Thought” is part of the BA sixth semester paper. The university’s executive council will make the final call on whether to end the chapter, the publication quoted officials as saying.
“Iqbal: Community” is a unit that is part of the above chapter, among other units, which aims to study important themes through individual thinkers.
The syllabus mentions that “this course is designed to give students a glimpse of the richness and diversity within Indian political thought.”
