One killed, 3 injured in parking lot shooting outside Los Angeles Trader Joe’s
A shooting in the parking lot of a Trader Joe’s in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon left one person dead and three others wounded in what authorities said may have been a drug deal. Several suspects are in custody.
According to the LAPD, the shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. in a parking lot in the San Fernando Valley’s West Hills neighborhood.
“Our initial investigation revealed that the dispute was centered around drug transactions in the area,” LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said at a news conference Saturday evening. CBS Los Angeles. “During the altercation, multiple suspects produced firearms and fired at each other.”
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, Hamilton said. The victim’s name was not immediately released.
Hamilton revealed that two firearms were also recovered from the scene of the shooting.
After the shooting, one of the suspects tried to flee in a vehicle, which was followed by police. During the pursuit, the suspect was involved in a collision with another vehicle that injured an innocent bystander, Hamilton said. The accused then switched vehicles and continued the chase.
That second vehicle was eventually pulled over, and two people — the male suspect and a female driver — were taken into custody, Hamilton said.
The hit-and-run victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, Hamilton said.
As of Saturday night, two people were hospitalized, and three others were in police custody. Hamilton said there are no known suspects. The investigation into the reasons and circumstances of the shooting is ongoing.
