1 dead, 1 hurt after spring break shooting in Florida
A shooting in a crowded Miami Beach area on spring break left one person dead, another injured and dozens of people running for safety, police said.
Two men were shot Friday night, and one person was taken into custody at the scene, the Miami Beach Police Department said. Tweeted. It was not clear if the person being held was the shooter. The police also said that three guns were also recovered.
The shooting happened on South Beach’s Ocean Drive, which is closed to vehicular traffic on its busiest stretch as hundreds of people gather to celebrate spring break. Police said that one of the victims died at the hospital and the condition of the other person is said to be critical. Their identities were not immediately released.
Dozens of people ran to avoid the bullets, officials said. Several blocks of the area were cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.
No other information was immediately available.
This is the second spring break shooting on South Beach in as many years. Last year, the city imposed a midnight curfew after two shootings also occurred on Ocean Drive.
A year ago, there were about 1,000 arrests And dozens of guns were confiscated during a violent spring break that prompted Miami Beach authorities to take steps to calm the situation.
