Teen allegedly shoots his mom, then kills 2 police officers in Canada
A 16-year-old boy wounded his mother with a firearm and then killed two police officers in western Canada early Thursday, authorities told The Associated Press.
The male suspect shot and wounded his mother in Edmonton, Alberta, a police official and a senior government official said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because each was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Earlier, EDementon Police Chief Dale McPhee said The two officers were shot and killed when they arrived at the apartment building around 12:47 a.m. on a domestic dispute call.

Other officers dispatched to the apartment found the teenager dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, McPhee said. He said the shooter and the woman were related without saying how old the suspect was.
The woman was in life-threatening condition when she was taken to the hospital, but was later listed in serious but stable condition, the chief said.
McFee identified the slain officers as Travis Jordan, 35, who had been with the Edmonton force for 8 1/2 years, and Brett Ryan, 30, an officer for 5 1/2 years.
“This is a very tragic day for the Edmonton Police Service and our city,” McPhee said in a statement Statement. “These officers gave their lives protecting our community. They will never be forgotten.”
Ellis said the names of the officers will be added to the memorial to fallen police officers on the grounds of the legislature. CBC reported.
Ryan is remembered as a pillar of the community and a longtime youth league hockey referee.
Darcy Carter with the Spruce Grove Minor Hockey Association said the officer and his wife were expecting a baby.
Carter said Ryan was a paramedic before becoming a police officer, and was passionate about his work in the police force. “That’s something I’ll never forget … his face lit up when he talked about his job.”
Jordan was remembered for his kindness.
Jessica Schmigelski said she was on her way to work after a heavy spring snowfall in 2020 and Jordan pulled her over because her snow brush wasn’t working. But instead of giving him a ticket, he cleared his CA.
“He did his job, and he did more than what his job really entailed,” Schmigalski said.
Ryan and Jordan were remembered with a moment of silence before Thursday night’s hockey game between the Stars and the Oilers in Edmonton, with their photos posted on the scoreboard.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Tweeted his condolences. and support from officers’ loved ones and colleagues.
“Every day, police officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep people safe. The news of two Edmonton police officers killed in the line of duty reminds us of that fact,” Trudeau wrote.
These are the first fatalities for the Edmonton Police Service since 2015. Constable Daniel WoodallA hate crime investigator, was shot multiple times while using a battering ram to enter a home. Another officer, Sgt. Jason Harley, was hit by a bullet that penetrated his body armor but survived.
On Thursday, Woodall’s widow, Claire Woodall, offered her condolences to Ryan and Jordan’s families, CBC reported. Reported.
“It understandably brought back painful memories,” he said. “I am saddened to think that those same sentiments will be shared again today by the families of the fallen officers.”
Before Woodall’s death, Constable Ezio Faraone was shot and killed while responding to an armed robbery in 1990.
