In a ___ News release In a release Thursday, the FBI said they believe the 63-year-old MARIA DEL CARMEN LOPEZwas taken from his home in Pueblo Nuevo, Colima on February 9.

CBS Los Angeles reports Lopez is the mother of seven children, many of whom still live in Southern California. She often travels to visit extended family in the Southland.

“We’re still doing everything we can. We’re not going to give up on our mom,” said one of Maria’s sons, Tony. “We’re going to find it, one way or another.”

Her children are now pleading for her safe return after the horrific incident which they believe was completely unprovoked.

“There were never any threats, there were never any enemies,” Maria’s daughter Zonia told CBS Los Angeles. “Anything that would indicate she was in any kind of trouble.”

A family member identified as a cousin of Lopez’s children said they saw a group of five people at her home around the time she disappeared.



“Somebody noticed. There was a car going into the property. Words were exchanged, they heard her say she wasn’t going to get in the car,” Zonia said. Zonia said. “Two men picked him up and another one came out of the van. They had their heads covered and covered his mouth and that’s when they took him away.”

His children believe he was a victim of a crime of opportunity, and had no ties to any gangs or criminal activity of any kind.

“I don’t think it was isolated, to get to a town so far away from the city, you really had to kind of gesture — to go there,” Zonia said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the alleged kidnapping.

“The FBI is conducting this investigation jointly with law enforcement authorities in Mexico,” Laura Emler of the FBI said in a statement.

Investigators have pegged Lopez as about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. The statement says she has blonde hair, brown eyes and “permanent/tattooed” eyeliner.
