‘It was not police vs police-like situation,’ Punjab IG says after GB top cop removed

Lahore: Inspector General Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar on Thursday rejected the news that the police force Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan Police came face to face during Zaman Park operation.

Addressing. Geo NewsIGP Anwar said that it should not be understood that an official of one province fought with the might of another province.

“We are all servants of the state,” he said, adding that security personnel of the GB chief minister and another minister came out during the police operation but nothing happened as per media reports.

This statement by the Punjab police chief came after the transfer of GB Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Saeed following the claim of Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb that the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Imran Khan Used GB Police Force against Punjab Police.

It is reported that when the police arrived at Khan’s residence in Zaman Park to arrest him, they were confronted by the GB police who trained him to fire a gun, after which the Punjab police retreated.

However, GB Chief Minister Khursheed Alam has denied these claims.

When asked to comment on the matter, IGP Anwar made it clear that neither is happening nor will one force fight another.

“There is no civil war. All the police force will ensure that the law of the land is followed.”

In response to a question regarding the implementation of the order of the Lahore High Court, the top police officer said that a meeting has been scheduled with PTI leaders at 5 pm in which they will be informed about the situation in detail.

The court has clearly directed us to ensure rule of law and to inform them tomorrow.

“We have been directed to ensure that there is no no-go area in the city,” the police chief said, adding that “the laxity of the police should not be taken as its weakness.”
