Breast cancer gene linked to Orkney Islands

Professor Jim Wilson of the University of Edinburgh, who led the research, said: “This mutation occurred in the BRCA1 gene hundreds of years ago in one person here on this island and now we have it both on Westray and beyond. But many descendants are being found in Scotland and beyond.
