Apologies if I crossed any line, Imran Khan tells IHC
In a surprise move, PTI Chairman Imran Khan finally apologized to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday after his controversial remarks about Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during a rally in Islamabad. The hearing of the contempt of court case against August 20
Imran Khan appeared in the court amid tight security.
During the hearing today, the court was scheduled to indict the former prime minister. However, Imran Khan apologized at the beginning of the hearing.
Imran Khan assured the court, “If I have crossed any line, I apologize. It will not happen again. I never intended to hurt the sentiments of the court.”
He also requested the court to allow him to personally apologize to Judge Zeba Chaudhry.
On this, Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Athar Minullah said that the court is not making allegations against Imran Khan today.
“The court values your statement. [given] before the court. You understand the seriousness of your statement, we appreciate it,” IHC Chief Justice Minullah said, directing the PTI chairman to submit a written affidavit on what Khan said in court.
The court adjourned the hearing till October 3 while recording his statement.
Problem
On August 23, a large bench of the IHC had issued a show-cause notice to Khan after a hearing. Contempt of court Action against the Additional Sessions Judge for threatening him during the rally.
The PTI chief had held a rally in the federal capital to express solidarity with his chief of staff Shahbaz Gul on August 20 after he was tortured in custody. He warned the Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General of Islamabad that he would “not forgive” them, and vowed to file cases against Gill for allegedly inhumane torture.
