The expert also explained why this happens after exercising or going to the gym.
Dr. Harish G. Mehta explained, “The most common cause of chest pain in the age group of 55 to 60 years is usually heart problems, caused by angina or reduced blood flow to the heart. Caused by decreased blood supply to the heart muscle due to blockage of the coronary arteries. One of the main reasons why people get chest pain during gymming or exercise is that before the patient joins the gym program. Do not examine yourself or consult a doctor.”
What the over 40 age group should not ignore.
“Most of these people have an underlying heart disease, which goes undiagnosed. Whenever an underlying heart disease is combined with aggressive/intense exercise, sympathetic hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline increase the risk. These hormones can create blocks in the coronary arteries, which can rupture suddenly and a clot can lead to a sudden heart attack. That’s why it’s recommended for anyone over the age of 40 to avoid any Consult a cardiologist and get a fitness test done before starting a gym or exercise program.”
Other causes of chest pain
“Another cause of chest pain and sudden cardiac pain after gymming is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It is a disorder in the heart muscle that causes it to thicken. In such patients, the heart rate increases prematurely, Called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, it can cause sudden death.”
As mentioned earlier, everyone above the age of 40 should undergo a check-up before joining any exercise or gym program, including echocardiogram (ECO), stress test, blood sugar levels. , lipid levels, smoking status, and alcohol consumption. If they have any of these risk factors, they should be thoroughly evaluated before starting any exercise regimen, as it can be fatal, as was the case with Mr. Raju Shrivastava.
