Vishwakarma Puja 2022: According to the Vedas, Lord Vishwakarma is known as the divine architect and designer for all gods and goddesses. Every year Hindus worship Lord Vishwakarma on Kanya Sankranti, which is usually celebrated on the last day of the month of Bhadrapad according to the Hindu calendar. This day corresponds to September 16 to 18 on the Gregorian calendar. This year Vishwakarma Puja is being celebrated today on 17th September.

This year Vishwakarma Puja will be held on September 17 from 7:36 am to 9:38 pm.
This occasion is widely celebrated in the states of West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Bihar and Jharkhand. Factory and shop owners perform pooja on this day to seek the Lord’s blessings to excel in their field. Along with the idol of Lord Vishwakarma, all the instruments and machines are also worshipped.

History
In some Hindu scriptures the deity is referred to as ‘Svambhu’ or the Self. He is considered the creator of all material things in the universe and the divine architect of the chariots, palaces and weapons of the gods and goddesses. Therefore, every year on Kanya Sankranti Lord Vishwakarma is worshiped by engineers, designers, architects, artisans and sculptors.
It is believed that Vishwakarmaji built the Pushpak Vimana and Suran Lanka for Ravana, as described in the epic Ramayana. According to the epic Mahabharata, he also built the city of Dwarka for Lord Krishna and Indraprastha for the Pandavas.
Importance
This occasion has great importance in Hinduism. Unlike other festivals, Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated only for one day. Vishwakarma Puja is determined according to the solar calendar while the dates of other festivals are based on the lunar calendar.
