Poliovirus paralyses another child in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A 6-month-old baby from South Waziristan was left paralyzed by wild animals. Polio virusThe total number of infections in the country this year has risen to 19. News reported on Friday.
The unfortunate child belongs to Preet village of Munthoi, Union Council of South Waziristan. The child suffered a stroke in Pakistan on August 22. Polio A National Institutes of Health laboratory confirmed Thursday.
So far this year, 19 children have been paralyzed by wild polio virus in Pakistan, including two children from Lucky Marwat, 16 children from North Waziristan and one child from South Waziristan.
This is the first case from South Waziristan this year. Earlier in June 2020, a child suffered from paralysis in the district.
Controlling the outbreak in southern KP has been the focus of the Pakistan Polio Programme.
Among the new measures taken to control the outbreak, the Ministry of Health is offering injectable vaccines with greater community acceptance, soaps for vaccinated children, and strengthening disease surveillance in these areas. .
“The humanitarian crisis resulting from the floods poses serious challenges to polio eradication efforts as we face the displacement of millions of people,” said Federal Health Minister Qadir Patel.
“This mass migration will lead to the spread of wild poliovirus, making it even more important to vaccinate children against polio,” the health minister added.
