PM Shehbaz to attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, meet Nawaz in London

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will leave for a two-day visit to the UK, during which he will represent Pakistan at the funeral prayers of Queen Elizabeth II and meet with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.

People familiar with the matter said Geo News That the Prime Minister will visit England this Sunday, a day after concluding his visit to Uzbekistan, where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State (CHS) Summit.

On the day he will land in the country, the prime minister has a three-hour long meeting with the elder Sharif. He will spend a busy day in the UK capital attending several engagements.

Prime Minister Shehbaz will return to Pakistan soon after attending the state funeral of the late Queen – who died on September 8 at her Balmoral Castle residence at the age of 96.

The late king’s coffin has been lying in state at the historic Westminster Hall since Wednesday.

Around 750,000 people are expected to follow the coffin ahead of the state funeral on Monday, which will be attended by presidents, prime ministers, royals and other world leaders.

US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and leaders from Australia, Canada and Jamaica will join Japan’s emperor in the party.

Shahbaz-Nawaz meeting

During the meeting in London, Prime Minister Shahbaz Nawaz – his elder brother and Muslim League (N) supremo – will be briefed on the country’s economic and political situation.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif held a telephone conversation on Friday to discuss the ongoing political situation in the country.

Rejecting PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s demand for early general elections, PDM leaders clarified that the ruling coalition will go for general elections next year after economic stability and rehabilitation of flood-affected people.
