David Beckham ‘in tears’ after 12-hour wait to see Queen: ‘I was wrong’
David Beckham is mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The footballer joined a queue of people inside Westminster Hall at 1.45am to see the Queen’s coffin. It wasn’t until 3.26pm that he got a chance to go inside the venue.
The Manchester United legend, 47, said: “I thought coming at 2am it would calm down a bit. I was wrong.
“Everybody had it in mind.
“Everyone here wants to be a part of the experience and celebrate the greatness of what it’s done for us.”
Asked if Britain would ever see him that way again, he shook his head slowly and said: “I don’t think so, no.”
Beckham was also awarded an OBE in 2003 by the Hon.
He continued: “It’s very emotional, the silence in the room, the feeling is very hard to describe.
“We’re all saying thank you to her majesty for being there for being kind, for caring, for being reassuring over the years that she’s been our queen.
“The legacy he has left is incredible.
“I think that someone has led the country the way he has led our country for so many years with the respect he has earned not only in our own country but around the world, It talks about what He has done for us.
“Everybody feels the same and that’s why we’re all lined up today because I think it’s the right thing to do.
“We respect our queen.”
The father-of-four added: “I grew up in the royal family and that’s how I was raised.
“If my grandparents were here today, I know they would have wanted to be here.
“So I’m here to celebrate on behalf of my family and everyone else.”
“Every time we stood there and she put on the Three Lions shirt and I folded my arm and we sang “God Save Our Queen” that meant a lot to us and every time we did it, it was something special.” Beckham concluded.
