Senior PTI leader Shahbaz Gul was finally granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) after repeatedly trying to get him released on bail in the sedition case registered against him.

If the same person later turns out to be innocent, there will be no remedy,” the court remarked, adding that an investigation must be conducted but only if strong evidence is brought to light.

Earlier in the hearing, IHC Chief Justice Minullah remarked that Pakistan’s armed forces were “not weak enough to be swayed by anyone’s irresponsible remarks”.

However, he clarified that “Gill’s irresponsible, inappropriate and derogatory remarks cannot be justified under any circumstances.”

Meanwhile, Gul’s lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar reiterated that the case against Gul was based on bad faith and political vendetta.

He claimed that Gul in his comment did not address the armed forces but was aimed at the Muslim League (N).

Allegations of torture, sexual assault

The PTI party was insisting on seeking bail for the leader, alleging that he was subjected to humiliation, torture and sexual assault in police custody.
