Interacting with communities in Chitral, the Canadian minister observed the Aga Khan Development Network’s (AKDN) flood response and early rehabilitation efforts in the worst-hit areas.

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH), AKDN’s lead response agency for the floods, evacuated more than 9,000 people. Affected areas. The agency has provided food packages to more than 4,000 families since the floods began. AKAH has set up health care camps in many parts of the country where more than 50,000 patients have been treated in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Harjeet Sajjan also visited the flood-affected village of Breep in Chitral. They discussed climate change resilience, youth employment and women’s empowerment, and visited areas where the current Global Affairs Canada (GAC) is driving broader economic and social change for women’s economic empowerment and recovery. (BEST4WEER), Foundations for Health and Empowerment (F4HE) and Healthy Khandan (SMK) programs are being implemented by AKDN agencies.
