KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday announced the revised schedule for local body elections in the port city.

In a letter sent to the ECP, the government had said that it had suffered a loss of Rs 450 billion as the rains wreaked havoc across the province. “Damage continues as the Pakistan Meteorological Department warns of another heavy spell of rain starting August 23, 2022.”

It added that administrative and law enforcement machinery is engaged in rescue and relief operations in the affected districts.

He added, “Election security in Hyderabad and Karachi regions warrants the deployment of security personnel from other districts and regions who are already struggling to maintain law and order and provide relief to the victims.” are.”

The letter said that redirecting resources to conduct the second phase of LG elections and ensuring access to polling stations could further exacerbate the devastation caused by the disaster.
